Celebrate The Holidays In New Orleans City Park At Celebration In The Oaks

Enjoy the amazing holiday lights festival known as Celebration in the Oaks in New Orleans City Park as it celebrates its 31st anniversary in 2017. This holiday festival combines a dazzling array of twinkling lights and displays in the park’s beautiful landscape. The first idea for this display, now called Celebration in the Oaks, came about in the early 1980’s when New Orleans City Park started fundraising for improvements to the Botanical Garden. The first display was called “A Tribute to a Christmas Tree”, in which trees decorated by local artists were put on display in a tent in the Botanical Garden. Other displays followed in later years with different names until finally, in 1987, Angela Hill of WWL TV Channel 4 volunteered to be the Chairperson along with Jim Cain of NOPSI, who became the financial sponsor. The light displays were expanded throughout the Park and changed the name to Celebration in the Oaks.
